We welcome all to our flock

Our diverse selection of crochet and knitting products has created a lively community of crafters united by a love of natural yarns.

At Baa!’s home in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire we’re proud to offer an open space for learning and encouragement. Seasoned knitters, crocheters, and newbies alike – we’re here for everyone who’s eager to dive into a world of crafting.

how it all began

Mrs Baa (aka Janice Anderson)

Baa! owner and fibre nut, Janice, claims to have an atrocious memory, but, despite this, she’s able to locate any one of our 200+ shades of Jamiesons of Shetland Spindrift with impressive accuracy!

Janice has worked as a freelance knitwear designer, mum, childminder, children’s art tutor,

Rowan Yarns Consultant (John Lewis, Aberdeen), pattern writer and knitting tutor.

After establishing a successful knit group in Stonehaven in 2012, a tiny seed was planted. That seed finally grew and blossomed with the opening of Baa! in 2018.

our principals

Promoting the benefits of natural fibres

Wool has so many incredible benefits and we aim to pass them on to you.

Caring for our Planet

Natural, sustainable, biodegradable; qualities we aim for when sourcing our yarns.

Customer Service

We look after our customers in the best way possible. After all, it's you who looks after us!

Community

Our shop provides a safe and inclusive space where everyone is welcome.
our knowledge

Just me and my needles

With a BA(Hons) in Textiles from Grays School of Art (now RGU, Aberdeen), Janice began her career via a work placement at Drumohr, a cashmere factory in Dumfries, Scotland. Sadly, now closed, this short but valuable experience triggered a lifelong love and appreciation of natural fibres and finishing techniques.

Janice Anderson

Janice is the knowledgeable, friendly face behind Baa! Whether you visited the shop, sent an email or shopped online from the Baa! website, you will have been served by Janice.

Assistant

Linda Murray

Taught by her mum, Linda learned to knit before she started school. She is a crocheter too but Linda’s real passion is knitting, especially fine lace and 4ply. Linda trained as a nurse and social worker before moving into health and safety a care home inspector. Linda has a big heart and pops in to support Janice at the shop whenever needed. She is also super fast at knitting fab shop samples!
The where

Stonehaven... picturesque harbour town, home of Dunnottar Castle and Baa!

Stonehaven, Scotland has been our family home for over 30 years, and I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

Recently described by one of our knit group members as The Willy Wonka sweetie shop for yarn lovers, our compact, corner shop is filled with bright and colourful yarns ready to welcome you into our flock.

Located within a convenient 25-minute drive from Aberdeen airport and city center, Baa! benefits from excellent bus and rail connections, making it easily  accessible for both our local customer base, and beyond. We’d love for you to pay us a visit!
