The Orkney Islands lie roughly 10 miles off the North Coast of Scotland. Here, the small Isle of Auskerry is home to Simon, Teresa and a large flock of North Ronaldsay sheep. The fleeces of this ancient native breed are clipped only when their fleeces have ‘risen’, in other words, ONLY when new wool is starting to grow. They are then hand-clipped to ensure this layer of new wool is left behind to keep the ewe nice and warm. Believe it or not, their wool fibre is even finer than merino, which makes for a yarn that is a delight to knit and crochet and even more lovely (and warm!) to wear.
North Ronaldsay is a rare breed of sheep, and Auskerry’s flock is the second largest in the UK. By supporting their flock, you help keep them alive.
For UK delivery we use Royal Mail’s 2nd Class Letter & Parcel service. Items are normally dispatched within 1-3 working days, provided the goods are in stock. Delivery times can vary, but are typically 2-3 days for UK mainland.
